Zion can play good defense though. If Randle could play halfway decent defense he'd be one of the better big men in the league.

I feel like even "Julius Randle with hops" is selling his potential short as he projects to have much better defense, passing, and handles than Randle.
There's a very realistic possibility that Zion ends up being a point-forward/center.

I'm not sure Zion's passing will ever be good enough to really run a great offense around, but I mean, I could totally be wrong with that. And while the rest is true, he's also a worse free throw shooter at this stage in his career than Randle was...so there's one thing Randle actually has an advantage on. Randle is also a little taller and has a longer wingspan than Zion.
All of that said, a hyper athletic, hop out of the building version of Randle is still, like, amazingly good, right? Randle just averaged an efficient 21/8.7. Give him a huge dose of explosiveness (which should also translate well to the defensive end) and you have an absolutely, 100% perennial All-Star at worst.
I don't see this as a knock on Zion at all, although Kanter certainly meant it as such.

Yeah but Zion had to work to be Randle of today. If Zion is already Randle w/ defense and handles and worse FT shooting without a single ounce of professional development yet, that's pretty damn good

I can't remember where I heard this but one of those random draft gurus said that Zion is going to be a late bloomer because of his limited handle and jump shooting concerns. Guy said that he'll make more of an impact defensively than offensively early in his career.
